Facebook to power its search box with Bing

Goodbye to the dysfunctional FB search box. I don’t think maybe people will miss it. I think this can only be a good thing for both Facebook, and Microsoft. In exchange, Facebook is dropping Microsoft ads, and will move to do it’s own ad serving.

Lesson to take from this: Microsoft doesn’t need to make money from the FB ads… its main concern at the moment is strategically attacking Google’s #1 position as search provider. And it really seems to be getting traction and making inroads. I am certain the Google team is sweating bullets about these guys.

I won’t miss the old search box! The race between Google and Microsoft has really heated up over the last few months. Just like any industry, I think it’s great–competition increases innovation and drives real value for consumers in the long-run. While I’m still a Google fan, I welcome the competition from Bing!

Yes, a lot of people feel that Google needs some serious competition to make them treat publishers, content providers and advertisers more fairly and with more transparency.

Too bad the new Facebook design is extremely slow and buggy. Can’t believe they released it to the public in its current state.

I am sure that google is fine and not worried. But great that Microsoft is trying and expanding.

Even though I’m a big Google fan, I have to give props to Bing. They have continued to make power moves, like this one with Facebook, that are at least keeping the search engine race interesting.

I think that Microsoft and Yahoo ad partnership may affect a little bit business of Google. But, Google will continue to be no.1

I wonder when bing will be bigger then google. I think it is just hard to get the “noob” internet user to switch to bing, because google has a very big name. But facebook search is a good start.

  13. Manhattan says:

Who ever used Facebook for searching anyway? You need to be really lazy to just not open up a search engine in another tab and use that.

I like seeing someone try to give Google a run for its money, even if the attempts may not work. Still, a little competition never hurt anyone, right?

In news I watch that Microsoft said it will now power Web search for Facebook outside the US, bringing Bing to the more than 400 million people using Facebook around the world.

When is this going in place? I saw they recently changed their search function.

  23. You bet they are Facebook is now the most visited website in the world. With Bing integrated into Facebook that is absolutely huge! If people start taking a liking to Bing, that will dig deeper into Googles market share. Thats a real big deal!

  24. David says:

I don’t find Bing to be all that comprehensive. Many of the blogs I read are definately on Google but also Lycos and Alta Vista, but not Bing.

  25. Luis says:

Its a big deal, but I think facebook is replaceable whereas google is not.
That said, this union can be a good weapon against the almighty google, but as I said google is almighty and has totally control of the situation.
They have 2 sites beyound the 4 most visited sites in the world.
